Cold Weather

December 12, 2024

This week in NY has been cold, windy, clear, and bright. Lots of beautiful lights all over the city. What a city! The idea of a crime happening, confusion, misguided vigilantism, impulsive rage and people snapping, and/or a planned murder, are just some of the topics on everybody's minds. What to do with all our feelings of concern, alarm, worry, fear of the future, dread of what's coming politically, morally, internationally??? Staying cool is imperative. We have to have clear heads, and take things, from where I am sitting at least, a day at a time. We also have to model integrity, poise, and faith. To act otherwise, running around like chicken littles screaming 'the sky is falling' will not serve us, even if it seems true. It won't hurt us, no it will HELP us, to stay calm and thoughtful, curious and insistent on holding to our values, principles, truth, respectfully. So for example, with a suggestions from recent cabinet nominees like 'let's rethink the polio vaccine' or 'Let's collaborate with dictators and strong men' or even the the promise from one cabinet nominee, 'i will stop drinking (if I can run the pentagon)' we can offer a grounded response. We can show respect while saying no if it feels important, but bottom line, we can show respect, even while holding fast to the truth. I realize most people reading this post, including myself, are not going to be asked anytime soon, what our position is on the cabinet nominees or even the shooting last week of the CEO, but in our own circles,, however small, we can still be leaders, in the sense of leading with class, with poise, and with a measure of grounded cool. We can speak up, but not in a brash, shallow, indignant way. We can speak up with grace and courage and hope. That's it!
