About Dr. Patricia Hunter

Current Work: Dr. Hunter is a
licensed psychologist in New York State. She has a full-time
practice in Manhattan. She is on the Visiting Faculty of the
Suffolk Institute for Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis.
Education: Dr. Hunter had the opportunity to live and
study in diverse areas of the United States, acquiring valuable insights into people as
well as book knowledge. She earned her B.A. in Psychology from
the University of West Virginia, M.A. in Psychology degree from the University of
the Pacific in California, Psy.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Northern
Colorado, and postdoctoral certificates in New York. She was a
Postdoctoral Fellow in Cognitive Behavior Therapy at the Institute
for Rational Emotive Therapy. She earned a Postdoctoral
Certificate in Psychoanalysis from the Manhattan Institute for
Psychoanalysis and a Postdoctoral Certificate with Advanced
Specialization in Couples and Family Therapy from the Postdoctoral
Program in Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy at New York University.
Honors: She was awarded an Undergraduate Psychology
Scholarship from Bethany College, an
Academic Fellowship Award from the University of the Pacific, and an
Academic Fellowship Award from the University of Northern Colorado.
She was honored with membership in the Psi Chi National Psychology
Honor Society.
Professional Associations: Dr. Hunter's memberships
include the American Psychological
Association and its Psychoanalysis Division 39, the New York State
Psychological Association, Cognitive Therapy Associates of New York,
International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis and
Psychotherapy, International Society for the Psychological Treatment
of the Schizophrenias and Other Psychoses International Society for
Traumatic Stress Studies, Professional Associates of the Albert
Ellis Institute, Society for the Exploration of Psychotherapy
Integration, and International Society for the Prevention of Child
Abuse and Neglect.
Publications:
Dr. Hunter is author of the book Why Am I Always Broke?
co-authored with Dr. Albert Ellis. It has been translated
into Chinese, German, and Spanish. She is a co-author of two
booklets about substance abuse for teens, which were published with
grants from the Pepsi Cola Foundation. She has written
articles in psychology peer-reviewed journals and other
publications.
Presentations: Dr. Hunter has given presentations at
over a dozen conventions and conferences including the American
Psychological Association, Association for the Advancement of
Behavior Therapy, Western Psychological Association, and other major
organizations. She teaches at the Suffolk Institute for
Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis and taught at the University of
Northern Colorado. She was a Supervisor for City University of
New York and the Fifth Avenue
Center for Psychotherapy.

She has worked in a variety of settings including The Institute for

Schick Center for Smoking and Weight Control,
The Fortune Society,
The
Children's Village, The Child Sexual Abuse Program at the Northern
Westchester Guidance Clinic,
Active Exploration for Trauma Transformation, and residential and
state mental hospitals.
